O’Malley v Almeida odds

Sean O’Malley returns to the Octagon for the first time since August 2020 as he faces Thomas Almeida at UFC 260.

‘Suga’ has not fought since suffering his first career loss at the hands of Marlon Vera, a fight in which he was unable to recover from a leg injury sustained in the first round.

Prior to that, O’Malley was one of the most hyped fighters in the UFC after four successive wins, including three post-fight bonuses, following his eye-catching performance on Dana White’s Contender Series.

His unique style and bravado on the mic make him a potential star for the UFC, and he enters Saturday as a heavy favourite.

It will not be an easy fight for him, though.

Almeida may be on a three-fight skid, but the Brazilian is an experienced fighter with the tools to trouble anyone in the bantamweight division.

The 29-year-old has fought nine times in the UFC since his debut in 2014 and holds an impressive career record of 22-4.

He will be looking to bounce back against the confident O’Malley, and heads into the fight as a underdog.

O’Malley v Almeida prediction

This fight is unlikely to go the distance.

Both fighters have knockout power – they have 25 wins by KO between them –  while also showing vulnerability to being finished themselves.

O’Malley’s unorthodox kickboxing style, which incorporates a wide stance and frequent feints, has proven highly effective in his career to date.

His walk-off KO win over veteran Eddie Wineland showed what can happen when an opponent struggles to work him out.

The one concern for O’Malley is his history of leg injuries – he first hurt his foot against Andre Soukhamthath before doing so again in his loss to Vera.

Almeida certainly has the ability to exploit that, with his slick Muay Thai making him a serious threat with his low kicks.

After four losses in five fights, ‘Thominhas’ may be fighting for his UFC life on Saturday, which could add an element of desperation to his performance.

O’Malley will have learned from his last fight, though, and whether you like him or not, ‘Suga’ looks like the real deal.

Look for him to demoralise Almeida early on with his slick defence before piling up the strikes and finishing the fight inside the distance.
